Moroccan Bath hammam ritual at Elysium Premium Spa, Business Bay

The experience

The Moroccan bath, or hammam, is one of the oldest cleansing rituals in the world, and a treatment the body remembers long after. It begins with warm steam that opens the pores and softens the skin, preparing it for a depth of cleansing that ordinary washing simply cannot reach.

Your therapist then works natural, olive-based black soap over the whole body and leaves it to draw out impurities, before exfoliating with a traditional kessa glove. The dead skin lifts away in visible ribbons, revealing skin that is brighter, smoother and noticeably softer to the touch. A warm rinse, and sometimes a nourishing mask, completes the ritual.

At Elysium Premium Spa in Business Bay, Dubai, the whole experience unfolds in a private, candle-lit setting, and finishes the way every treatment here does, with a cup of tea and a few sweets so you can ease gently back into your day.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Moroccan bath, and how is it different from a massage?

A Moroccan bath, or hammam, is a traditional North African cleansing ritual rather than a massage. Where a massage works the muscles, a Moroccan bath works the skin: warm steam first opens the pores, then natural olive-based black soap is applied and left to draw out impurities, and finally your therapist exfoliates the whole body with a traditional kessa glove to slough away dead skin. The result is skin that feels deeply cleansed, noticeably smoother and brighter. It is wonderfully relaxing, but its purpose is renewal and exfoliation, not muscle release. Many guests enjoy it alongside a massage, which is exactly why we offer the Royal Moroccan Bath, pairing the ritual with an Aroma or Swedish massage in a single visit. Think of it as a deep reset for the skin, in the same way a massage is a reset for the muscles.

What happens during the treatment, and what do I wear?

You will be shown to a private, warm treatment area and given disposable underwear to wear, so you stay comfortable throughout. The ritual begins with a few minutes of warm steam to soften the skin and open the pores. Your therapist then massages natural black soap over the body and leaves it to work before scrubbing thoroughly with a kessa exfoliating glove, which lifts away dead skin in visible ribbons. A warm rinse follows, sometimes with a nourishing mask, leaving the skin clean and glowing. There is nothing you need to bring or prepare. Simply arrive a few minutes early, and afterwards relax with a cup of tea and sweets before you step back out into Business Bay. Because the steam and the scrub do all the work, there is nothing for you to do but lie back and let the warmth soften the day away.

Should I choose the Moroccan Bath or the Royal Moroccan Bath?

The Moroccan Bath at 500 AED is the full hammam ritual on its own: 60 minutes of steam, black-soap cleansing and deep kessa exfoliation, ideal when you simply want fresh, renewed skin. The Royal Moroccan Bath at 599 AED is the better value if you would also like to unwind your muscles, as it pairs an Aroma or Swedish massage with a 30-minute Moroccan Bath in one visit. For only a little more, you get both the skin ritual and a relaxing massage, which makes it our most popular choice for a special treat or a complete reset. If your main goal is exfoliation and glowing skin, choose the standalone bath; if you want to relax body and skin together, choose the Royal. Either way, both finish with the same warm tea and sweets, and both leave your skin feeling clean, soft and noticeably renewed.

How often should I have a Moroccan bath, and is it suitable for sensitive skin?

For most people, a Moroccan bath once or twice a month keeps the skin smooth, clear and free of build-up without over-exfoliating. If your skin is on the sensitive side, do mention it when you book and again during your consultation, as your therapist can use a gentler black soap and a lighter touch with the kessa glove so the treatment stays comfortable. It is a natural, traditional ritual using olive-based soap, but if you have very reactive skin, a recent sunburn, open cuts, eczema or any skin condition, please tell us so we can advise whether the timing is right. First-timers are always welcome, and we will talk you through every step before we begin. Drinking water afterwards and avoiding harsh products or strong sun on the same day helps the freshly exfoliated skin settle and stay comfortable.

How do I book a Moroccan bath at Elysium Premium Spa?

The quickest way to book is to message us on WhatsApp or call +971 50 303 8294, and let us know whether you would like the standalone Moroccan Bath or the Royal Moroccan Bath with a massage.
